The Health and Social Care Act 2012 replaces the current public and patient engagement mechanism Local Involvement Network (LINk) with a new body called Local Healthwatch. The Act requires Local Authorities with adult social care responsibilities to commission a local Healthwatch from 1st April 2013. To this end, the Council is looking to procure a single, experienced Provider to deliver management skills and support services to the new Healthwatch Hackney. The initial contract period shall be for 2 years period and the Council will have the option to extend the contract by a further 12 months, subject to performance and availability of funding. The Council is currently in the process of appointing an independent Chair to oversee the establishment and day to day management of Healthwatch Hackney. The winning provider will be expected to work with and support the Chair in establishing Healthwatch Hackney and in developing the organisation.
