PC05873 - Forge Dam Heritage and Wildlife Improvements

Sheffield City Council, with the support of the Friends of the Porter Valley, are working together to regenerate the millpond at Forge Dam in Sheffield. Over a number of years the pond has become heavily silted, resulting in a loss of amenity, reduced wildlife value and a hazard to visitors. The purpose of the project is to remove silt built up in the dam over the last 30 years and minimise future silt deposition. The project will provide the opportunity to enhance the biodiversity value of Forge Dam, using site won material to re-profile the existing island and soften the southern edge of the pond. The ultimate outcome of the project is to enrich visitors' experience of the heritage and wildlife of the Dam and will also provide improvements to the existing path network, better siting of memorial benches and new interpretation, orientation and welcome signage. The scheme will be awarded via a two stage design and build procurement. The stage one works will include surveys, site investigation work, concept design and cost plan in line with the design brief included in Part 3B - Design Brief. Stage two will follow on with the successful contractor and will include production of detailed design and construction of the works within the available budget.
