The failure of East West has presented FSCS with a portfolio of claims originating from flammable cladding being installed on high-rise, multi-occupancy residential developments. Other fire safety issues are also commonly being found on these buildings. Urgent remedial work is required to resolve these claims and the claims themselves are very high value (i.e. multi-million GBP).FSCS has no expert knowledge of handling this type of claim and equally there is very limited expert resource available in the wider market. The decision was therefore taken to engage a specialist insurance law firm together with a firm of loss adjusters with experience in this area to provide the requisite legal and loss-adjuster expertise support for FSCS, this will also upskill FSCS resource.
