Public Sector Network Tender Alert

387161-2012: UK-Aberdeen: archaeological services

The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route ("AWPR") and Balmedie To Tipperty consists of a package of two discrete projects, each of which has been developed separately through the statutory process, and the Operation and Maintenance ("O&M") of the road network.
The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route is proposed as both a bypass and a distributor road around the City of Aberdeen. The route is the construction of a wholly new dual two lane road some 34.6km long around Aberdeen City, together with a fast link to Stonehaven some 11,5km long, associated side roads and connections.
The AWPR will provide access to the Park & Choose sites around the periphery of the City and improve access to National and European Transport Networks, reducing the peripherality of the area. It will remove traffic from unsuitable roads in and around Aberdeen. It is required to facilitate the implementation of other projects within the area and allow the most effective use of roadspace throughout the City.
The A90 Balmedie to Tipperty Scheme comprises a 9km section of new dual carriageway, with two lanes in each direction, three grade separated junctions to allow access on and off the new road at the following locations: to the south of Balmedie; at Rashierieve; and south of Tipperty. The scheme also includes for the upgrading of 3km of existing dual carriageway immediately to the south of Balmedie.
The purpose of the Invasive Archaeological Investigations is to further evaluate the presence or absence of archaeological remains within the proposed Land Made Available ("LMA") areas for both schemes, assess the importance of any remains identified and the potential impact that the scheme could have on them and to undertake additional works appropriate to mitigate this potential impact, including post fieldwork assessment, analysis, reporting and publication and the preparation and deposition of ordered archives.
The contract may also include some or all of the following projects:
— Access from the North Proposal ("Third Don Crossing"): Subject to confirmation, archaeological invasive investigations may be required on this 2,4km single carriageway road and river crossing scheme in Aberdeen,
— Subject to confirmation, undertaking archaeological invasive investigations of the 999 space A96(T) Dyce Park and Choose site and a 0,5km link road ("Dyce"); and,
— Subject to confirmation, undertaking archaeological invasive investigations of the 999 space A90(T) Aberdeen South Park and Choose ("Schoolhill").
