Public Sector Network Tender Alert

Research Tender: Regulatory Research Unit - NIBSC

The Department of Health’s Policy Research Programme invites the National Institute of Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) to submit a full proposal for a 5 year research programme of relevance to the work of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Exceptionally the invitation to submit a proposal is not through an open, limited or single tender process. This is because in April 2013, NIBSC will form part of the MHRA (an executive agency of the Department of Health), whilst retaining its own identity; thus any award of funding will in effect represent a transfer of money within the DH estate. In addition, NIBSC is a world leader in regulatory science research and there is no clear partner with the expertise to form a partnership across the full range of potential research. However, NIBSC will be required to submit to the DH Policy Research Programme a detailed application for funding. Funding of up to £5m is available over a 5 year period for a research programme which is judged by independent scientists and advisers to be of high scientific quality, relevant to the MHRA’s needs and to offer value for money.
