Proposed Demolition of the former Goresbrook Leisure Centre

London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is now inviting expressions of interest for NFDC accredited demolition contractors to be shortlisted to a final tender list of 5 contractors who will be invited to tender for the demolition / site clearance of the former Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Ripple Roa, Dagenham, RM9 6XW. The Leisure Centre itself was constructed around 1990 and has a floor plan area of approximately 7000m2. The building is split between single and two storeys in places and at its highest point is approximately 13m high. Within the Leisure Centre a swimming pool, gymnasium, sports hall, café/bar and general offices exist and the building was used up until early/mid 2012. Currently no date has been confirmed for the commencement of the demolition works and we await clarification. As part of the demolition all foundations and drainage up to 1500mm in depth will need to be grubbed out / removed as part of the contract. Depending on time constraints associated with this scheme there may be a requirement for the successful contractor to carry out some asbestos removals works, but this will be subject to clarification. These works have an estimated value of approximately £350,000.00 and will consist of:- • Arranging for all stats disconnections prior to demolition. If time constraints are tight, advice with regard to the use of temporary crash decks if necessary. • To ensure any outstanding asbestos removals are completed prior to demolition. • The demolition and site clearance of all identified buildings. • Levelling the site upon completion of the works. Tenders are anticipated to be issued in January 2013. With assessment criteria based on 80% price:20% quality criteria. Once the scores of the top three contractors have been ascertained, final clarifications of the top three will then be requested an assessed on 60% price:40% quality.
