: Provision of the design, development, and implementation of the Troops to Teachers Initial Teacher Training programme

The underlying purpose of offering this provision will be to support the transition of Armed Forces Service Leavers (SLs) in to the teaching profession in England. This will be done by developing and delivering a two year school-based Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme comprising three pathways – one graduate pathway to PGCE and QTS, one non-graduate combined top-up degree and QTS pathway, and one non-graduate vocational pathway to QTLS. There will be two, two year cohorts with 180 trainees on each, starting in 2013/14 and 2014/15 (therefore September 2013 – August 2016). This will involve working collaboratively within a delivery model, with the Department for Education/TA, and with the MoD and the MoD’s resettlement contractor. Estimated value: There is a total of £10.1m funding available for Cohorts 1 and 2, including subsidised salary costs. Funding for any cohort starting after 2015 is subject to the next spending review. Length of contract: The contract will cover training for two, two year cohorts, the first starting in September 2013 and completing in August 2015. The second cohort will start in September 2014, and complete in August 2016. There will be an option to extend the contract to provide a third training cohort starting in August 2015 which would be completed in August 2017. Any extension will be subject to Government’s priorities in the next spending review.
