Local Healthwatch Services

Under the Health and Social Care Act 2012 each Local Authority in England with social care responsibilities will have a duty to commission an efficient and effective Local Healthwatch organisation by 1st April 2013. Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is inviting expressions of interest from organisations interested in tendering either individually or as part of a consortium to provide Healthwatch including health complaints advocacy. The new Healthwatch will cover both adults’ and children’s health and social care and will be an independent organisation. It will provide services such as: • advice • information • signposting • complaints advocacy • public engagement about services • consultation\influencing commissioning decisions Healthwatch will be the local consumer champion and ensure that the public has a voice that influences health and social care services and those involved in the commissioning, provision and scrutiny of those services. Private profit making Businesses are prohibited from applying for this contract as the requirement defined by the Act is that the organisation must be: • Corporate Bodies • They must not be ‘not-for-profit’ organisations Please note that TUPE will be applicable to this contract.
