The Human Tissue Authority (the Authority) has been selected as the body that will set standards for the quality and safety of transplant organs across the UK under the EU Organ Donation Directive and has developed a number of National Operating Procedures.
It is imperative that the service provided is compliant with the aforementioned National Operating Procedures and in particular the following:
NOP 003 - Packaging, Labelling and Transport of Organs in Deceased and Living Donation and Transplantation
Standard Operating Procedure SOP3888/1 - Reporting an Organ Donation or Transplantation Incident to NHSBT (updated November 2012).

To provide the above transport, the retrieval teams must be available within 1 hour from the time of initial contact. The Trust requires one contact number for all requests.
There is a need for robust contingency plans to be in place to ensure continuity of service, as well as the ability to provide multiple retrievals in one day.
Transportation is required for all road transfers and may include flight transfers within the United Kingdom and Europe.
