The Provision of School to Pool Transport Services 2017 -2021

The purpose of the framework is to provide a transport service to the council for the carriage of children from their school to a swimming pool and to return them to school following swimming lessons. Children are to be taken to and from schools in Sheffield to any swimming pool within the city. The service will be required during school term time only and the length of contract will be for 12 months, with an option to extend by a further 12 months. The number of journeys and vehicles required on a daily basis will vary between each schedule and may vary between each programme; this will be highlighted in the specification. There is a legal requirement placed on each primary school to ensure children can swim at least 25 metres by 11. The national curriculum states ' that all schools in England must help pupils meet targets which include ensuring they can swim 25 metres unaided by the time they are 11, and carry out speed, distance and survival tests'. This is generally delivered at Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11) level. The swimming training sessions are currently organised through Sheffield City Council's Inclusion and Learning Service and is offered to schools as a traded service and therefore the scope and value for transport can differ, as schools can opt for an alternative.
