Friends and Family Test

The Prime Minister announced in May this year that, from April 2013, patients will be asked the ‘Friends and Family’ test to identify whether they would be happy for their friends or family to be treated in a particular acute hospital ward or accident and emergency unit. The test puts patient experience centre stage by introducing a quick, consistent, standardised patient experience indicator. It provides organisations, employees and the public with a simple, easily understandable headline metric, based on near real-time experience. Many trusts will start reporting the results of the test this autumn ahead of full implementation from April 2013 and, as trusts get to grips with this important new requirement, we wish to bring together suppliers of patient experience services. This session is to ensure suppliers understand how trusts have been asked to implement the test and the scope to support trusts in its delivery. Suppliers will be interested in the implementation guidance published in October (http://www.dh.gov.uk/health/2012/10/guidance-nhs-fft/). This details the background, requirements and implications of implementation.
