Apethorpe Hall Phase 2 Repairs

Apethorpe Hall is a large Grade 1 listed country house, dating from the late 15th century, with many significant alterations and additions, particularly of the 16th and 17th centuries. Besides the main house, there is an extensive stable block as well as many garden structures. The site has been uninhabited for over 25 years, with many parts in very poor condition. A Phase 1 programme of repairs was carried out in 2005-12. The Phase 2 programme will have a contract value of the order of £2m, with a start on site in March 2013 and an 18month contract period. The project work involves a wide variety of repairs to the whole range of historic structures. This will include: repairs to stone-slated and lead roofs; stonemasonry and brickwork repairs; structural repairs involving decayed timbers and defective masonry; repairs to timber and leaded-light windows; joinery and panelling repairs; repairs to internal lime plasterwork, both plain and decorative; and redecoration. English Heritage is seeking main contractors specialising in repairs to historic buildings with considerable experience of major conservation projects on a similar scale.
