Parenting Support for Parents of Children with suspected or diagnosed ADHD

Provision of support to parents of children with suspected or diagnosed ADHD is a county-wide need which has previously been supported through a combination of voluntary sector provision and offer of general family support from Leicestershire County Council Early Help Services. In recent years the demand for more specialist support for parents who may be managing more challenging behaviours has continued to increase. This is evidence through referral rates to First Response Children's Duty and data collected through early help multi-agency arrangements. Feedback from parents tells us that a specialist support service is valued by them, from providers who have specific understanding of ADHD and impact on behaviour, parenting, and family life. In addition, many parents themselves may have ADHD and therefore parents often find that general family support may not meet their individual needs fully. This contract provides an opportunity to work with families alongside the Council and other services, to ensure their needs are met in terms of managing child / young person behaviour so that families in Leicestershire have the opportunity to thrive and build resilience, potentially avoiding the need for more intensive services in the future.
