A landing platform built on the River Great Ouse in Bedford has fallen into disrepair. Due to bank erosion the rear side of the platform has partially collapsed. The structure is a timber clad platform constructed on a steel channel beam supported by steel columns driven into the riverbed. The land side section of the platform was supported by timber stakes driven into the bank before erosion under the stakes destabilised the structure. The timber elements of the platform are aged and would benefit from replacement. The council is looking to either restore the landing platform or demolish and remove the platform completely. The choice of option depends upon tendered costs of both.
