This is a joint collaboration between Sheffield City Council and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to deliver this Scheme.
Sheffield City Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and the South Yorkshire partners are committed to increasing the level of cycling within the Sheffield city region, especially for journeys to work. The partners are also committed to making cycling a more realistic and attractive travel option for those seeking employment or accessing training. Levels of cycling in Sheffield are increasing at a rate only surpassed by that of London, albeit from a low base. Cycling levels in Barnsley have remained consistent over the last 20 years.
The group recognises much work is still to be done to make cycling an attractive choice of transport and to that end are developing schemes, individually through LTP allocations and in partnership through the successful South Yorkshire LSTF bid to take away barriers to cycling.
The idea behind this package is that helps to take away some of the barriers to cycling as a means of getting to work / training, whilst at the same time complementing other LSTF and LTP schemes. The most relevant for this scheme are the cycle training/coaching and the bike doctor service.
The scheme is to be delivered in a specific area of Sheffield – namely the Don Valley (from Tinsley to Hillsborough) – and a specific area in Barnsley - namely the Barnsley Access Corridor from Barnsley Town centre to Goldthorpe.(MT Ref:94876)
