EQUIP-T: a GBP 60 000 000 (Only GBP 50m will be managed through MA), four years programme to support the improvement of the quality of education in primary schools in Tanzania and specifically to increase learning outcomes, particularly for girls, to enable transfer to secondary education. Focusing on approximately 20 local councils and supporting national institutions EQUIP-T will develop cost-effective and affordable school improvement models for national scale up by the Government. This will be demonstrated by:
— Improved teaching of early-grade reading and numeracy, resulting in more children being able to read with comprehension,
— More time on task for students, with more passing their examinations,
— More girls able to make the transition to secondary schools.
The programme will deliver:
— Better professional standards and strengthened capacity of teachers - management and leadership training - Greater girls participation in a more sustainable and conducive learning environment- Improved management and school support systems in districts, wards and regions- Enhanced accountability and transparency mechanisms - Robust evidence on learning generated and results effectively communicated. The Management Agent being sought will lead a consortium to deliver the programme and manage the majority of the financial resources available. The programme will be delivered under DFID oversight, in partnership with the Tanzania government and a number of civil society partners.
