English Heritage is seeking expressions of interest from exhibition designers for the creation of a new experience at Conisbrough Castle. The project will involve the creation of an exhibition in a new visitor centre, a scheme of external graphic panels, and an interactive experience within the castle keep. The following elements will be included: audiovisual experiences, models and interactive displays, graphic and 3D design, lighting design, object displays and the dressing of historic spaces.
Conisbrough Castle is one of South Yorkshire's best surviving examples of medieval military architecture, and one of the few surviving examples of its kind in Europe. The 12th-century castle occupies a commanding position on the southern bank of the River Don, overlooking a narrow valley carved into the Magnesian Limestone from which the Castle is built. The new visitor experience is due to open for Easter 2014 and the interpretation scheme is part of a wider project supported by the HLF and including a new visitor centre and series of activities aimed at connecting the castle back to the community of Conisbrough. The overall project is a partnership between English Heritage and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council.
The budget is in the range of 150-200,000 GBP subject to confirmation of scope of services.
