Public Sector Network Tender Alert

407677-2012: UK-Cambridge: Health and social work services

Coaching for self care (health coaching) is a combination of clinical plus communications skills and techniques (skills in behaviour change) or “a method of patient education that guides and prompts a patient to be an active participant in behaviour change”.
As an innovation in the UK, NHS Midlands and East together with the NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement is keen to roll out and evaluate health coaching at pace and scale, building on the leading edge work already undertaken within the region.
The essence of this contract is therefore to procure a programme of training in health coaching that will equip NHS organisations and clinicians across East of England LETB with the right skills, knowledge and behaviours to motivate patients to become more active participants - or leaders - in their own care. The aim is to supplement core clinical skills and help doctors, nurses and others communicate in a way when consulting with patients that is safe, but also empowering and shared, based around a patients own aspirations and goals. In this way clinicians will be able to provide a more flexible and tailored approach to different patients needs.
In particular we are looking for organisations to provide a range of clinicians with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to support patients to self care, increase motivation and responsibility, and improve patient satisfaction. More specifically for:
- Design and delivery of an accredited health coaching skills programme to reach optimal numbers of clinicians
- Provision of facilitation and support to organisations seeking to embed a health coaching culture
- Robust impartial evaluation with an academic partner to demonstrate ROI, particularly in terms of quality, patient experience and patient outcomes.
