DFID 6072 Market Development Programme for the Niger Delta

The Impact of this five year programme is to be an increase in incomes in the nine states of the Niger Delta. The Outcome will be increased, pro-poor economic growth in the non-oil sectors of the nine states. The overall objective of this assignment is to design and implement a market development programme for the Niger Delta, based on an appropriate methodology. The programme aims to improve market access for poor producers, increase economic activity and trade, create jobs, and raise incomes of poor people and of those from excluded groups in the nine states of the Niger Delta – Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers States. A desired estimate of the results of the programme, to be verified during the Design Phase, is that at least 150,000 poor people in the Delta region, of whom 50% are women, will see their incomes raised by at least 50%. It is anticipated that the achievement of the Goal of the programme will also contribute to increased stability in the region, an important objective for DFID.
