Strood is located in Medway, Kent on the east of the River Medway. Strood is at risk of tidal flooding from the River Medway as well as significant surface water flood risks. Current river/flood walls in the area offer a varying Standard of Protection (SoP) between <1 in 20 to 1 in 200 year and is characterised by a number of council and third-party assets in varying degrees of condition. The area is also heavily developed with retail, recreational and residential development, with a number of key transport links including major roads and railway lines. Strood, and Rochester are separated by the River Medway, and joined by a road/rail bridge. The Rochester Bridge Trust (RBT) owns and maintains the two highway bridges commonly known as the 'Old Bridge' and the 'New Bridge' across the River Medway. Network Rail own and maintain the adjacent rail bridge.
