As part of its statutory duties under the Food Law Code of Practice (England) 2017 the Environmental Health Team is required to deliver a programme of Annual Official Food Control Inspections. The official food control inspection program for each year consists of food premises with a hygiene risk rating ranging from high risk category A premises through to lower risk premises rated as category E. The team is also responsible for inspecting and risk rating newly registered food businesses, following receipt of a registration. At the end of each financial year the team has to report to the Food Standards Agency on the number of inspections undertaken in each risk category. For 2020/2021 a total of 1,259 of food businesses with existing risk ratings will require inspection, in addition approximately 400 new business registrations are anticipated.
