One of the responsibilities of Public Health England is to ensure the provision of an appropriate Medical Inspection Service for the purposes of the Immigration Act 1971. The Immigration Act 1971 provides for immigration officers at ports of entry to the UK to refer prospective entrants who are subject to immigration control for medical examination by a medical inspector. The purpose of the examination is to establish whether the prospective entrant meets the rules for admission to the UK.
