Equine therapy offers children and young people the opportunity to learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses, and then processing and discussing their feelings, behaviours, and patterns. It provides a chance to engage in new interactions in an open and non-judgemental environment. Emotional issues are often displayed in the young person's interactions with the horses. This allows the therapist a unique insight into a client's individual difficulties. The intervention also takes place outdoors providing people with the chance to experience a rural environment. For children and young people who have experienced severe family difficulties or deprivation, this can be a very rewarding and stimulating therapeutic intervention
